Stylized Mountains Art Project for Kids (breathtaking and fun)

Stylized art is a form that has moved away from natural forms and shapes. This type of art takes natural forms and alters the color, shapes, lines, and features. Therefore, the art appears similar to the natural state while also looking more dramatic or abstract. The stylized mountains art project I did with my students turned out amazing and I know your students will enjoy it as well.

Why Use Stylized Art Projects

For starters, this kind of art can be used to express an idea. Students are able to transform a realistic image into an expressive and emotional object. For these types of projects, it’s okay to forget some of the rules and principles in art and instead use creative expression.

To help convey this art principle, I used a three-step process.

Step 1

I had students view other stylized landscapes featuring mountains. This helps give them a visual of what they should aim for when drawing their own landscapes. I communicated that their drawing was to include a foreground, middle ground, and background.

Step 2

Next, they painted their landscapes using acrylic or tempera paints.

Step 3

Last, they used a black sharpie to add fine lines and details to their work. Using the black marker really makes the colors pop.

Final Thoughts

Students are able to learn more about the unique sides of art and create something they can be proud of. This is one you’ll want to do a show-and-tell with or hang the artwork for display for others to see!
